How to mask caller ID

These days it feels natural that people you call always know who is calling them before you would even introduce yourself. If you would not like it to be so, for some reason, then this article has been written for you, because it will explain how you can hide your identity when making a call.

There are several options to hide your caller ID. One such option is seen in Figure 1. As it will be explained below, a third party service is used here, in which case your call is routed from that service. It means that the number displayed on the device that you call will not be your number.

Call identification basically means that the number of the caller is sent to the called party's device with the ringing signal.

  • You can set it in the menu of your mobile phone, probably under “Settings” where you can either find a “Hide Caller ID” or a “Show Caller ID.” Select the option of your choice.

  • Your service provider can also provide permanent anonymity for you as your default setting.
