How to Block Calls

In this section you can get informed about call blocking: this feature is used when you want to prevent unwanted calls or if you want to prevent some of your employees from using the corporate IP phones for private purposes. To get to know more about the details, keep on reading and get informed.

You can configure call blocking according to caller numbers and call destinations as well: for example, you can block some extensions to make international calls. In this case, if any of these extensions try to make such a call, this call will be managed this way: first, it starts from the extension, then arrives to your Ozeki Phone System XE PBX (Private Branch eXchange), where it is handled according to the call routing rules. The number of the extension is blocked for the international calls, so it will not be allowed to make such a call (Figure 1).

When to Block Calls?

  • to prevent unwanted incoming calls

    If you have some phone numbers that you might not want to get a call from, this feature is the solution for you. With call blocking, you can avoid to waste your time and energy for these callers.

    In your Ozeki Phone System XE webgui (web-based graphical user interface) you can configure call blocking policies for individual extensions, ring groups or for the whole company. You can use different settings for this situation: you can configure what to do with the unpleasant incoming call. The handling can be:

    • sending a busy tone
    • playing an informative audio file
    • an automatic forward to voicemail
    • pick up and hang up
    • any of these but you can ask for e-mail or SMS notification as well

  • to prevent private talks made on corporate phones

    If you want to prevent your colleagues from making private calls from their extensions, you can block any of the extensions to call another one. In this case the two extensions will not be able to get in connection at all. Now the employees can concentrate on their work, do not disturb their colleagues and each other during the work hours.

    Similarly to other features in your Ozeki Phone System XE, this in-corporates call blocking which can be done in minutes with the help of the menu in the WebGUI. You can block calls made from individual extensions and ring groups as well.

    The only disadvantage of this feature is that these extensions will not be able to call each other even if they wanted to speak with each other for work reasons. Use this feature with care.
