ISDN NT vs. ISDN TE
In this section you will be informed about ISDN and the two types of devices that are necessary for using the ISDN. If you are interested in how the Internet works and how can you make good use of knowing the processes well, keep on reading and get informed.
ISDN NT and ISDN TE
The term ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) can be used for the set of standards that was defined by the ITU-T (the United Nations' International Telecommunications Union) and also for the type of an Internet connection. The ISDN connection is a standard for the Internet connection, it ensures the quality that the Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs) must provide.
ISDN NT and TE are standard devices that are used in the ISDN networks, they are elements of the system. TE stands for Terminal Equipment, NT stands for Network Termination. These standard devices are actually not physical ones but points in the network where the proper device should be placed that is capable to serve the needs. Let us see how.
A TE is an equipment of communication (e.g. digital phones, Group4 Fax machines, ISDN data terminals, ISDN-equipped computers, etc.) that can fulfill the requirements of the ISDN standards.
The NT is a device that is a boundary between the customer's premises and the carrier's network: the NT consists of an NT1 and NT2 device: NT1 is for the physical, NT2 is for the logical interface. In most cases PBXs or digital multiplexers perform both the physical and the logical interface functions (Figure 1).
