How to unblock caller ID

Caller identification means transmission of the caller's number to the called person's device simultaneously with the ringing signal. It is available in both PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and digital network (over the Internet). This ID can be blocked for any reason, but the callee usually wants to know the identity of the caller. This article will tell you how.

A caller ID is displayed on your device if both the caller's service provider and phone settings are configured so (Figure 1). If one of them is set to hide the ID, then it will not be displayed, but it will be sent to the PBX of Ozeki Phone System XE as data. The PBX (Private Branch eXchange handles calls of a local network) then analyzes data in the script of the header, and transmits it to your device.

Caller ID can be blocked in several ways, which you can read in the section on “How to block caller ID.” It is not complicated at all, and you do not always need to do anything special for that.

However, since information of the caller is transmitted with the ring signal as data, it is easy to read those information in our digital era.

Methods:

  • Use a third party service such as TrapCall
    • If you reject a call with a blocked caller ID, then when it rings again, the ID will be displayed. The only way to keep the caller's identity anonymus is spoofing, which means they can call via a third party service, like TrapCall, and so the ID appearing on the callee's device will be fake.
