What is H323
The H.323 is a collection of recommendations from ITU-T, which defines protocols that are used in audio and video based network communication.
Among others it describes the call signaling and control and the transmission of multimedia packages.
In addition it describes the multimedia communications over ISDN, the PSTN or SS7, and 3G mobile networks.
It is widely used in VoIP-based systems, and in those systems where videos are transmitted over Internet.
Nowadays the using of SIP instead H.323 is frequent, because the SIP is easier.
The call model is similar to the ISDN call model. It eases the intruduction of IP telephony into the created ISDN and IP based PBX.
