How to Setup Google Voice with Ozeki PBX

Google Voice offers quite a lot of services for you, but it is quite challenging to use it through a server. There are, however, a few alternatives still, to set it up. Since Ozeki Phone System XE prefers the easy but high-quality solutions, the article will explain one such method here.

The only problem with Google Voice is that is does not support SIP (Session Initiation Protocol directs initiation, termination and maintenance of connection between two conversation partners during a multimedia session).

So, if you would like to use your SIP device, or make a call over the Internet through a PBX (Private Branch eXchange handles calls within a local network) to a VoIP Phone for example, as demonstrated by Figure 1, with your Google Voice account, you need will need Internet connection, for example Wi-Fi, a VoIP provider and the following softwares:

Configuration process

  1. In your Google Voice account:

    1. Go to Settings → Phones → Add another phone.
    2. Add the 10 digit SIP number that you previously obtained from Gizmo5.

  2. Use your Gizmo5 software for verification.

  3. Enable outbound calling from Gizmo5.

    1. Sign in to Gizmo5.
    2. Type your Google Voice number in the field on top and enable it by selecting ON.

  4. Start xGVout.exe.

    1. Type proxy01.sipphone.com into SIP server box.
    2. Enter your Gizmo SIP number in Phone box.
    3. Enter your Google Voice Username and password to the appropriate fields.

  5. Start Ozeki Phone System XE.

    1. Enter your Gizmo5 SIP number into User ID, Register Name and Display Name fields.
    2. Type your Gizmo5 password into Register Password field.
    3. Type proxy01.sipphone.com into Domain Server box.
    4. Click on Register button.

How to make calls

  1. Log in to Gizmo5.
  2. Enter the number you wish to call (without 00 or 1).
  3. You will hear a busy tone, so hang up.
  4. You will get a call from your Google Voice number, which will be connected to the person you called.

So as long as Google does not support SIP, it is the easiest way to make calls through SIP, but as you can see it now, it is simple with Ozeki Phone System XE, and so is everything else with it.
