What is VoIP Call?
In this section you can get informed about the technology of Internet telephony, the world of VoIP calls: if you are interested in international or even intercontinental communication, this is the place where you can find the answers.
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, technology used for Internet-based communication: this protocol creates small data packets from the different kinds of source, send them from the sender to the receiver through the Internet, and in the end it unpacks it into the original source.
In Figure 1 there is an example for a simple VoIP call, where a caller initiates the communication (from a VoIP phone or a computer) that goes through a server. This server (that is also called PBX or Private Branch eXchange, PABX or Private Automated Branch eXchange, IP PBX or Internet Protocol PBX and SIP server or Session Initiation Protocol server) is connected to the Internet. Through the Internet, another VoIP phone can be called. The server can also connect to a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) system and able to call anyone who has an analog landline phone or a cell phone.
VoIP calls are those that are managed through the Internet instead of the traditional PSTN system. These calls can be done locally, internationally or even intercontinentally – based on the Internet, distance does not matter in quality.
If someone intends to make a good use of the Internet telephony, s/he should choose a VoIP service provider to order an account from them: with their service used together with the Ozeki Phone System, the international calls can be managed worldwide and the user will be able not only to make calls among the Internet users, but can also connect to the traditional PSTN lines as well.
Since VoIP is capable of managing multimedia data (text, voice, video data), with building up such a system, not only phone calls can be done but all kinds of media can be used for communication: users can chat, send voice and video messages to each other and even organise chat, voice and video conferences as well.
