How to setup a VoIP service
Using VoIP is getting more and more unavoidable for businesses of our days. Unlimited call plans and virtual numbers, call transfering and call forwarding and checking voice mails and e-mails are features that you and your business can wisely use. This article tells you how you can obtain this marvellous invention and implement it to your office.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) controls transmission of voice and multimedia sessions over the Internet. It specifies that voice signals must be digitalised and broken into data packets of 10-30 milliseconds of voice data, and they can be sent only then to the appropriate IP address. (Internet Protocol defines IP addresses, which are unique series of numbers in order to indentify each computer in the network.
It sounds complicated, doesn't it. Still, there is no need to worry about setting up the service, since it basically has only three phases (Figure 1):
- Start the web GUI (Graphic User Interface) of Ozeki Phone System
- Get in to Connections menu
- Choose the Extensions button
- Install your extensions by giving the appropriate data
- Use your VoIP system
-
Choose an application to use for VoIP communication.
-
Get the necessary equipment: microphone and / or webcam, headphones or speakers.
-
Download the program to your hard drive.
-
Install the application by opening it from the folder where you have downloaded it. The installation is usually user friendly, and it guides you through the entire process.
-
Open the application.
-
Create your account, which will also be just as easy as the installation process. You will basically have to enter a user name and a password, or sometime your location and other additional information.
-
Add contacts: you can either look for them just by entering their name, or to get more precise results, you can give their usernames. Most of the times the contacts you wish to add need to have the same application so that you can add them.
-
If a contact is online, then you can already make a call. If there is nobody online, then usually there is an option to make a test call to test the service. The call can be made by clicking on the contact and the call button next to his or her name.
